Establishing your own business at home is a lot of work. While you enjoy the freedom of being your own boss, you also have to accept the responsibilities a business can bring. One responsibility is adequate insurance. You shouldn't assume that because your business is being run from your home, your home insurance policy will protect you. In most cases it won't. You've invested a lot of time and money into your business. That's why adequate insurance is an important part of your business plan. The Co-operators makes it easy for you if you have your home insurance with us.
PROPERTY
Business property includes items such as: stock held for
sale, samples, supplies, filing cabinets, computer and
associated software, tools, etc. It also includes customers'
goods.
If you attend events such as trade shows or craft fairs
outside your home, the $7,500 limit on items temporarily
away from your premises covers your stock while it's
being transported in your vehicle or while at the event.
Loss of money:
Business continuation expenses: This coverage provides
up to $10,000 if your home unfit to live in due to an
insured loss. It will compensate you for any necessary
expenses for continuing your business from another
location. With this protection, your income is not
interrupted and your customer base is maintained.
Many businesses fail because they are unable to start up
again after a business interruption or by the time they do,
their customers have taken their business elsewhere.
